Away from the class rooms our teachers lead very exciting lives – here is just a little bit about the stars who are helping your children to shine
Our guitar teacher in Harborne, Robbie is a woodwind music specialist who studied on the Jazz course at Birmingham Conservatoire.
Since graduating he has taught and played music all around the west midlands, and led workshops incorporating guitar, singing and samba drumming with children of all ages and abilities
Mercy, Ukulele & Violin
Our ukulele & violin Course Leader in Harborne, Mercy specialised in composition and music production while studying at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, trained classically, however, she has been versatile throughout her musical life working with various other genres (gospel, folk, jazz) as well as performing solo as a singer songwriter.
Since graduating she has been working as a freelance music practitioner in and out of schools and with different organisations across the west midlands.
Ruta, Ukulele & Guitar
Our ukulele & guitar Course Leader in Brockley, Ruta has a BA jazz guitar degree from the Music Conservatoire and is also a professional singer performing all across London with a few projects, playing Latin, jazz, pop and original songs.
At the moment I am working on my album which will be released in the beginning of 2019. She’s been teaching for the last 10 years – one to one, group and whole class lessons.
Our uke Course Leader in Islington, Ragnar was born and raised in Iceland and studied classical guitar and electronic music at conservatories in Germany and the Netherlands.
He currently works on experimental music projects as a composer and in collaborative settings alongside teaching.
Melinda Kiss, Violin & Ukulele
Our violin and ukulele Course Leader in Hampstead, Melinda is a classically trained violinist who graduated from Middlesex University London in 2010. She currently teaches children between 4-12 in schools. She’s worked for the Strings Club for many years now. Melinda has been playing in the Collaborative Orchestra for a few years who were in the BGT semi-final recently.
Our violin Course Leader in Brockley, Simon-Philippe is an accomplished musician with significant orchestral experience who has a 20-year career behind him and 10 years of academic education in violin performance. Simon-Philippe studies violin at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with David Adams while taking a sabbatical leave from his current position as Assistant principal second violin in Symphony Nova Scotia, Canada. He had his first violin lesson at the age of five and later obtained degrees in Violin Performance from McGill University and Université de Montréal (Canada).
Our violin Course Leader in Greenwich, Riley is a student studying at the Guildhall school of music and drama in London. He is experienced in solo, orchestral and chamber music and we are delighted to be able to welcome him to The Strings Club as one of the newest members of our Tremendous Term Time Team!
