Welcome to String Explorers, our exciting new series designed to help children across the UK discover string instruments from around the world. In this first adventure, we travel (musically!) to India to learn about the sitar, one of the most unique and beautiful Indian musical instruments.
At The Strings Club, we provide 5* rated, music-inspired Holiday Camps, helping children build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music. If your child enjoys exploring instruments, our music holiday camps for kids are the perfect place to try them in a fun, hands-on environment.

In this video, we’re joined by our wonderful teacher George, who usually teaches at our Richmond Holiday Camp in the UK. Known for his energy and enthusiasm, George makes learning about music fun and accessible for children of all ages.
The sitar is a traditional Indian string instrument used in classical music. It’s famous for its rich, echoing sound and detailed design, making it a fantastic instrument for children to discover when learning about music from different cultures.
If you’re searching for sitar fun facts for kids, here are five fascinating things to know:
What makes the sitar stand out is its ability to create smooth, sliding notes (called “meend”), giving it a flowing and expressive sound. This makes it especially engaging for children learning about how music can sound different around the world.
Our String Explorers series is designed to support music education for children in the UK, introducing young learners to instruments, cultures, and sounds they may not hear every day.
Whether on our popular YouTube or at one of our fun-filled music holiday camps, children can explore instruments in a fun, supportive environment led by experienced teachers.
