Listening to music is not only enjoyable but is also beneficial in developing many skills including coordination and self-confidence that will continue to be useful for your child throughout their lives.

Every month, we are here to help you inspire your child with some season-appropriate classical pieces.

This month, The Strings Club Head Office team has gathered for you a selection of the best winter themed pieces of music alongside some fun facts and links to YouTube and Spotify! Snuggle up toasty warm and enjoy!

1) Children’s Corner: IV. The Snow is Dancing, Claude Debussy

Debussy’s Children’s Corner is a suite for solo piano inspired by his three year-old daughter Chou-Chou’s toy collection and was intended to evoke childhood memories. His 4th movement, The Snow is Dancing, illustrates scenes of a child watching the snow fall from indoors on a dark winter afternoon.

2) Symphony No.1, ‘Winter Daydreams’, Pyotr Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.1 was written in 1866 when Russia was considered to be the land without the symphony. Having recently been appointed to a job at the Moscow Conservatory, the musical prodigy saw this as a chance to provide them with a great symphony the country desperately needed.

3) The Four Seasons. ‘Winter’, Antonio Vivaldi

Our ‘Winter’ playlist cannot be complete without mentioning Vivaldi’s famous violin concerto. This work illustrates different elements of winter: trembling with cold in the freezing snow in the 1st movement, the beautiful 2nd movement illustrates days spent by the fire and the 3rd and last movement is all about slow walk on ice.
