Recommended listening – Halloween edition

Welcome back to our Monthly Recommended Listening!

Every month, we are here to help you inspire your child with some season-appropriate classical pieces. Listening to music is not only enjoyable but is also beneficial in development many skills including coordination and self-confidence that will continue to be useful for your child throughout their lives.

This month, The Strings Club Head Office team has gathered for you the best ‘spooky’ pieces of music alongside some fun facts and links to YouTube and Spotify to celebrate Halloween!

1) Toccata and Fugue in d minor, J.S. Bach

Bach’s Toccata and Fugue is one of the most well-known pieces of music associated with Halloween. This spooky organ piece fits in perfectly with the season with its creepy sounds, imitating the sound of creaking boards and ghosts.

Listen to Toccata and Fugue on YouTube or Spotify.

2) Piano Sonata No.2: III. ‘Funeral March’, Frederic Chopin

Chopin’s iconic ‘Funeral March’ which appeared in the 1830s as the third movement in his Piano Sonata No. 2 was first performed at Chopin’s own funeral. The work imitates the solemn pace of a funeral procession – an exceptionally beautiful yet haunting piece.

Listen to Piano Sonata No.2 on YouTube or Spotify.

3) Symphonie fantastique: Fifth movement, Hector Berlioz

‘The Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath’ is the fifth movement from Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. It depicts the scene of demons and sorcerers gathered to celebrate the Sabbath night. Listen closely – Can you hear the bells ringing towards the middle of the piece?

Listen to Symphonie fantastique on YouTube or Spotify.

Creative Workshops not to be missed!

Following the success of our Summer Holiday Camps, we are rolling smoothly on a high into Autumn, bringing plenty of magic, light and celebration. This is no time to hibernate, as we have got a week packed full of fun as we celebrate Diwali, Black British History, Day of the Dead and much much more.

Monday – Diwali

There is no time to shiver and frown, it’s time to get active, keep warm and turn that frown upside down. In a cooler and darker season what better way to celebrate than Diwali, the festival of light. This wonderful South Asian festival promises plenty of sensory delights.

Tuesday – Vivaldi

Rumour has it that this very talented C18th classical baroque composer’s favourite season was Autumn, so what better time to celebrate this Italian composers humble beginnings, musical journey and philanthropic work. The children will have the opportunity to listen and perform to Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’.

Wednesday – Black British Celebrations

October is Black History Month, unfortunately black british history is not taught on our school curriculum and it’s so important to celebrate those who have not only paved the way for a better and brighter future, but it’s also great to acknowledge those who have achieved and made great contributions. In this celebratory session the children will have the opportunity to learn about Malorie Blackman (Children’s Laureate from 2013 to 2015), Sheku Kanneh-Mason (British cellist who won the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year award) and we’ll even be crafting our way to carnival. Team work makes the dream work!

Thursday – Day of the Dead

What better way to celebrate our loved ones, as we go on a magical journey to the afterlife. The children will have the opportunity to learn about this sacred Mexican holiday through singing, dancing, drama and arts and crafts. We will be resurrecting the 2017 Disney fantasy film Coco to bring this afternoon’s activities to life.

Friday – The Strings Club Birthday Party!

The Strings Club turned 6 years old earlier this year and we couldn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate. In true birthday style we will be going all out! There will be opportunities for the children to make their own birthday hats and garlands, plenty of party games and music to last a lifetime.

Our Holiday Camps for children aged 4-11 are running for the whole week at October Half Term (from 22nd Oct in London & 29th in Birmingham) with half days from £20. If you’d like to find out more give us a call on 0121 296 9204 or take a look at our Holiday Camps page.

Meet the UK’s best childcare professionals

Sending your child to a Holiday Camp for the first time is a big deal. We’re parents. We know that.

You want to know they will be looked after in the same manner they would at home. That they settle quickly. That way they will be comfortable enough to be themselves, take part in all the activities and have lots of fun.

Here at The Strings Club we are super proud of the amazing people that run every Holiday Camp – the UK’s best childcare professionals.

And we do mean AMAZING! They are professionally trained, kind and caring people who are amazing with kids. That’s why 100% of children said they would recommend our Camps to their friends. Can’t say fairer than that!

Fanny, Camp Manager

“I am an actress with a big passion for theatre and the performing arts. I’ve been teaching for the past 10 years now and am specialised in early years.

I can’t wait to see children who’ve been to the camp before and also meet new faces! Camps are such a great opportunities to make new friends, and play together. It’s really important to me that everyone feel part of the group. Encouraging children to talk to someone new or to be praised for being good are the two things I like to concentrate on. The camp must make everyone feel amazing and have fun!”

Edouard, Camp Assistant

“I studied at Trinity College of Music in London with Hu Kun and my did my Chamber Music studies under the late Sandor Devich. I’ve also played alongside the Smith Quartet and the Brodsky Quartet.

I have been a soloist in the March 2015 Beethoven Violin concerto in D with the Amati Orchestra. I also played with Sir Yehudi Menuhin in a concert to celebrate the opening of the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens. My most enjoyable achievement is anytime a pupil is able to do something they believed was unattainable or really difficult.”

Do you have a 4 year old? Are they new to Holiday Camps? A little shy?

We’re set up to help all EYFS children boost confidence, learn skills and make friends at our multi award-winning Holiday Camps.

Earlier this year we were delighted to announce that all children aged 4 are able to attend for the whole day, 8am – 5.45pm.

We are able to offer this at every Holiday Camp and next up is October Half Term!

#TipTuesday – bring a friend for free

From experience we know that to get the best from any experience it helps a lot if a child is happy, settled, and feels at home.

It is difficult to put yourself out there. Doing something brand new is sometimes a bigger deal than a few words can give justice to. (Don’t think it goes unnoticed little people out there!)

Our amazing team always ensures every child feels welcome and provides the platform for them to gain confidence and make friends throughout the week, but for some younger children we understand the thought of the initial step through the door can be a bit too much.

We decided the best thing to do would be to invite your friends along too. For free!

Bring a friend for free at October Half Term!

If you are new to The Strings Club and considering inspiring your child through music at Half Term you can bring along your child’s friend for free. If you have two children, bring two friends!

We know that everyone will have a wonderful time at Camp and hope that this offer will ensure that even the youngest and the most shy children get to experience our events and be inspired through music.

If you’d like to book or find out more give us a call on 0121 296 9204.

This offer is limited by availability and on a first come first served basis.

Why The Strings Club Holiday Camp is the place to be

It’s nearly Half Term!

With Half Term around the corner us parents are thinking about what our children will be up to.

Can I find something my child will be fully engaged in? Will they benefit from their experiences and continue their development? Will they have fun and be happy there? And quite simply, can our family afford the cost?!

Here are the top 4 reasons why you can be confident a Camp with The Strings Club is the place for your child this Half Term:

1 A new amazing theme every week

Each week at Camp we have an amazing new theme to help us have fun and explore music – guaranteed to inspire your child and ensure they have a new creative experience every day they are with us.

2 Your child’s development is key

What enables our award-winning Holiday Camps to stand proudly apart from other childcare providers is our passion and dedication in promoting the learning and development of all children in our care. We aim to guide the development of every child’s capabilities and skills on a daily basis to ensure that they truly benefit from our multi award-winning, Ofsted registered Holiday Camps.

3 100% of children recommend us!

The opinions that matter the most are those of the characters who we have so much fun with every event – the mini maestros themselves! Each Camp this year has grown through word of mouth because every child who has attended has said they would recommend us to their friends, simply because they have such a good time!

4 Ways to save

Childcare can be expensive, so to help we have introduced a new way to save money. Each Camp we have a super simple offer – recommend a friend to us* and for each friend who books we will give you a free day of childcare. If you have 5 friends that will give you a free week and save you up to £225! All you have to do is ask your friends to mention your name when they book.

* To take part in this offer you need to have already booked with us.
